Litesprite
Meditation Gallery
During my final term at the University of Washington Bothell, I began a research project with my professor, Wanda Gregory, studying how mindfulness and gaming might work together. I was partnered with another one of her students, Drew Stone. Dr. Gregory was on the Advisory Board of an emerging tech company, Litesprite, that was interested in developing a meditation game. Needing some help, Dr. Gregory had enlisted Drew and I to work on a prototype, given our backgrounds in media studies and psychology. Over three months, Drew and I designed an interactive media experience of meditation. We applied research from consciousness, media, and game studies and developed “meditation gallery” model for inducing meditative experiences. The application utilized biofeedback, psychotherapeutic, and reflective interactive engagement for instructing and encouraging users to meditate. The proposal was enthusiastically received by Litesprite who then implemented our prototype as a feature of their game. Litesprite launched a beta version of their game, SinaSprite, in June 2014 and since has received acclaim from the U.S. Surgeon General, U.S. Army, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, SXSW, Livestrong Foundation, Singularity University, and others.
